This book is a compilation of Rötscher’s Dramaturgische Blätter, a series of essays, critical observations and texts by lesser-known dramatic poets. The essays were originally published in four quarterly installments. Rötscher (1803-1871) intended with this publication to further the academic thinking about theater and wrote it primarily to make actors and dramatic poets aware of the ‘eternal laws’ of art. The book contains the plays Iphigenia in Aulis by Theodor August Burghardt, König und Dichter and Platen in Venedig by Auguste Cornelius, Cato von Utika by Ludwig Rieben, and Von Stratford nach London by Theodor Kretzschmar.
