Dramaturgy for devices: Theatre as Perspective on the Design of Smart Objects.
In this book chapter, Marco Rozendaal and Maaike Bleeker investigate how insights and expertise from the theatre, and performative phenomena more in general, can inform the conceptualization and design of smart objects in everyday life. They discuss how such expertise may be translated into a dramaturgy for these non-human performers that increasingly populate the environments in which we live. Key-concepts discussed are: mise-en-scène, performativity, presence, address, ecology, dramaturgy and interaction design.
