The Dramaturgy of the Door
In The Dramaturgy of the Door authors Stuart Andrews and Matthew Wagner examine the function, potentiality and dramaturgy of doors in performance. One point of focus is the way we interact with, or perform, doors, and how they invite certain actions, attitudes and behaviors. Andrews and Wagner approach the door from ‘the basic elements of performance practice’, primarily place, text, body, audience and time, to understand how it can function as a structuring element and an agent of meaning-making. Conversely they explore how a study of doors might inform and perhaps expand our understanding of these dramaturgical notions .
