Lessing, Jugglers and Dramaturgs
The article explores the views of dramaturg Gotthold Ephraim Lessing on dramaturgy. He served as a resident critic at the Hamburg National Theatre in Germany in January 1767. Lessing wrote the book Hamburg Dramaturgy which is a collection of essays about the theater which popularized dramaturgy. The essays by Lessing criticized the taste of theater spectators by comparing 18th century Germans to ancient Athenians. It discusses how dramaturgs after Lessing influenced theatrical productions.
